Service Description
Section 608 of the Federal Clean Air Act requires that all persons who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of appliances that contain regulated refrigerants be certified in proper refrigerant handling techniques. The EPA has also placed a sales restriction on refrigerants, limiting the sale of regulated refrigerants to certified technicians only. There are 4 categories of technician ceritification: Type 1: Persons who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of small appliances must be certified as Type 1 technicians. *Small appliance is defined as a pre-assembled unit, hermetically sealed and factory charged with 5lbs or less of refrigerants. Type 2: Persons who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of medium or high pressure appliances containing more than 5lbs of refrigerant (including HVAC split-systems) or if the installation of such equipment requires refrigerant charging, must be certified as Type 2 technicians. Type 3: Persons who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of low-pressure appliances (include commercial chillers) must be certified as Type 3 technicians. Universal: To be certified as Universal, a technician must pass all four sections: CORE, TYPE1, TYPE2 and TYPE3.
